Instrument

Course Description

This course is designed to train the pilot to safely fly their aircraft from one airport to another using flight and navigation instruments within the air traffic control system. Completing this course provides the pilot with an Instrument Rating, allowing them to fly in weather conditions that do not permit Visual Flight Rules.

Prerequisites:

  • Hold at least a Private Pilot Certificate
  • 35 hours of cross-country recommended

How We Do It

We incorporate ground and flight training using our IFR-equipped aircraft and comprehensive syllabus to meet the requirements of 14 CFR Part 61.65. This course can be “accelerated” down to three weeks if the student arrives with a completed knowledge test, has strong overall aviation knowledge and competency, and has completed our pre-arrival checklist.

Course Completion

Upon completion, students will have:

  • 50 hours of cross-country flight time as pilot in command, of which 10 hours must have been in an airplane
  • 40 hours of actual or simulated instrument time in the areas of operation listed in 14 CFR Part 61.65, including:
    • 15 hours received from an authorized instructor who holds an instrument-airplane rating
    • 3 hours of instrument flight training from an authorized instructor in an airplane within 2 months before the practical test
    • Instrument flight training on cross-country flight procedures, including one cross-country flight under IFR with a flight plan, covering 250 nautical miles and involving an instrument approach
  • FAA knowledge test for Instrument Rating
  • FAA practical test for Instrument Rating
