Program Overview

Our accelerated private pilot program will provide you with the knowledge and skill you need to safely and confidently operate and aircraft. For this program we utilize the private pilot portion of our airline career pilot training syllabus. This proven syllabus clearly outlines the expectation and standards you must perform to. There is no ambiguous “I think you are good there”. With our system you are either proficient or you are not.

Required Time Commitment

Prerequisites Prior to Arrival

Private Pilot Flying Requiremnts

To apply for a private pilot license in the airplane category you must log at least 40 hours of flight time which must include at least 20 hours of flight training from a certified flight instructor and at least 10 hours of solo flight time. The training must meet the following minimums:

  • 3 hours of cross-country flight training.
  • 3 hours of night flight training including:
    • One cross-country flight of over 100 nautical miles total distance
    • 10 takeoffs and 10 landings to a full stop (with each landing involving a flight in the traffic pattern) at an airport
  • 3 hours of flight training on the control and maneuvering of an airplane solely by reference to instruments
  • 3 hours of flight training with an authorized instructor in preparation for the practical test
  • 10 hours of solo flight time consisting of at least:
    • 5 hours of solo cross-country time
    • One solo cross country flight of 150 nautical miles total distance with full-stop landings at three points
    • Three takeoffs and three landings to a full stop at an airport with an operating control tower

These are minimums per federal regulation to apply. Most students will require more time than the minimum to be checkride ready.

What to Expect Upon Enrollment in the Accelerated Private Pilot Program

Upon enrollment and receipt of the deposit your class date will be set and you will gain access to your online ground school. We will also ship out your Private Pilot Kit which contains everything you will need to study for and complete the written test and your flight training. We will help you get your flight medical scheduled and completed as well as your student pilot certificate application. We are also here for you if you need support during training for your written test prior to your class date.

Learn to fly through low or zero visibility conditions solely by reference to instruments in our accelerated instrument rating program. For this program we utilize the instrument rating portion of our airline career pilot training syllabus. This proven syllabus clearly outlines the expectation and standards you must perform to. There is no question as to whether or not you are performing satisfactory. With our system you are either proficient or you are not.

Instrument Rating Flying Requiremnts

To apply for an instrument rating  you must log at least 50 hours of cross-country flight time as pilot in command which must include at least 15 hours of flight training from a certified flight instructor and at least 10 hours of PIC cross-country time in an airplane.  You must meed these minimums prior to your check ride:

  • At least 50 hours of cross-country flight time as pilot in command. At least 10 of these hours must be in airplanes for an instrument-airplane rating.
  • A total of 40 hours of actual or simulated instrument time.
  • At least 15 hours of instrument flight training from an authorized instructor in the aircraft category for the instrument rating sought.
  • 3 hours of flight training with an authorized instructor in preparation for the practical test
  • 1 IFR cross country flight consisting of:
    • A distance of at least 250 nm along airways or ATC-directed routing.
    • An instrument approach at each airport.
    • Three different kinds of approaches with the use of navigation systems.

These are minimums per federal regulation to apply. Most students will require more time than the minimum to be checkride ready.

Accelerated Flight Training Location

We currently offer accelerated flight training through our Saint Paul location.  Availability is not guaranteed until a deposit is placed and class date assigned. When we get in touch to discuss the details of your training we may recommend one aircraft and flight instructor over another based on schedules and availability.  The goal is to expedite your training, so we want to be as efficient as possible to streamline this process for you.
